River Dogs Birthday – Celebrating Our First Year!

Hello everyone, and welcome to an extra special River Dogs dog blog! Now I know that you think that every witty weekly edition of the world’s best canine blog is better than the last (10 points to anyone who can say that without getting tongue-tied), but this birthday blog is a showstopper. The best doggy daycare business in town is one year old today; it’s time for a River Dogs Birthday blog! They say time flies when you’re having fun, and we can’t believe that it’s been a full year since we opened our doors to all of our four-legged customers.

We’ve shared lots lot laughs both with our staff and with you, our devoted mums, dads, friends and family of our furry friends, and we wanted to share some exciting facts and figures about our first year. Who is the youngest dog? Which breed owns the River Dogs Day Care play yard? How many HobNobs has Mark consumed while on the job, and how many pairs of shorts does he actually own? All will be revealed below, so sit back and raise your glasses as we celebrate a River Dogs Birthday!

River Dogs Birthday – Celebration One Full Year Of Canine Capers

Our day care unit provides a consistent, fun and caring setting for your dog to play, relax and socialise so you can focus & concentrate on the day job.

I bet you sit at home and wonder how many dogs make up the River Dogs team. Well, when you strip back all of the different crime-fighting squads and puppy patrols, there are 101 dogs in total (and not all dalmatians either!) 62 of our four-legged friends are male, and 39 are female. James Brown might have been singing about the Tadcaster Doggy Day Care scene when he sang ‘It’s a man’s world’, but it certainly ‘don’t mean nothing without a woman or a girl’. Our female customers definitely keep the rowdy males in check, and regular characters like Ronda and Bess never fail to keep our staff members entertained.

The first ever dog through the River Dogs doors was Seb the Lurcher. Apart from sharing the same name as our Head of Global Communications (a fancy title that Mark recently gave me in a text), Seb has also watched over our Facebook Page for the past six months, taking prime spot in the header at the top of our feed. Our newest dog is Heidi the fantastic French Bulldog, who has passed just passed her assessment! Congratulations Heidi, and we look forward to spending more time with you over the coming years.

Who takes the crown of being the oldest and wisest member of the River Dogs team? Well, apart from being the best tummy tickler on the Yorkshire Doggy Daycare scene, Helen is also the proud parent of Molly who is 12 years and 9 months old. Molly is the River Dogs oracle and knows everything there is to know about the business. She’s Helen’s right-hand woman and a regular face around the unit. Billy, the terrific Toy Poodle, is our oldest boy, and he shares a house with our Youngest River Dog, Teddy!

Which Breed Will Bark The Loudest Through Our River Dogs Birthday Celebrations?

It’s true that some of our Doggy Daycare Yorkshire crew have louder voices than others (especially the ones calling for homemade dog treats), but which breeds reign supreme in the River Dogs play yard? Who controls the River Dogs sofa, and who owns the toy box? Luckily all of our dogs play well together and get on like brothers and sisters (some of them are!), but let’s find out more about our breeds.

We have 20 Spaniels in the River Dogs team, with our cuddly friends the 12 Cockerpoo’s being the next most popular breed. Our dogs come in all shapes and sizes (variety is the spice of life after all), and here’s a run down of our official ‘5-1’. 5 Springer Spaniels make up the famous Springer Squad, and 4 German Short Haired Pointers make up the mighty Pointer Patrol! Our 3 Dachshunds have starred in a few Dachshund Diaries, we have 2 brilliant Border Terriers, and 1 enigmatic English Bulldog!

It’s not all throwing balls and going for long walks; sometimes we have to do some real work too. We estimate that we’ve picked up around 12’000 poo’s over our first year in business, which if nothing else shows that the River Dogs all feel at home when you drop them off at our door! For those that can’t drop off or pick up, the trusty River Dogs van has travelled 13’500 miles around Yorkshire transporting Helen, Mark, and of course our Canine Customers.

The River Dogs staff have walked around 4000 dogs in our first year, and Mark has attended 11 Physiotherapy sessions as a result! Mark has also consumed around 1 million HobNobs (give or take one or two), and he owns a few trusty pairs of shorts that he wears on rotation. We’ve had 2 professional photo shoots carried out by our resident photographer, and we have another one booked in for the 1st of May!

And now, let’s give it up for the River Dogs team (the two-legged ones this time). Our business wouldn’t be possible without the tireless efforts of our team, and this River Dogs Birthday is just as much about you as is it is our pooch pals. We have four regular staff members, a home boarder who looks after all of our home boarding for dogs needs, three casual members of staff, 1 volunteer, and we have also worked with six students from Askham Bryan college who showed great enthusiasm and hopefully learnt a lot while here at the unit! We want to thank you all once again for all of your hard work.

So there we have it, a full round up of our first year in business. Thank you all for choosing River Dogs to look after your beloved pets, and we hope that you will continue to put your faith in us for many years to come. We hope that you have enjoyed reading this River Dogs Birthday blog and that you will pour yourself an extra-large glass of something tasty to help us celebrate!

Here’s to our second year!
