A Hot Doggy Day! How The River Dogs Cope With Heat!
Hey folks, and welcome to another River Dogs dog blog! It’s your number one pup Spice here, and I’m here to tell you all about the crazy day we’ve had hanging out in the River Dogs play yard. Man; has it been a hot doggy day or what! It’s pretty difficult to type with sweaty paws, but I’m going to do my best! I hope that you’ve all been checking out our tips on How To Help Your Dog Beat The Summer Heat, as some of our younger friends need a little helping hand when it comes to looking after themselves. Anyway, let’s put all four paws to the grindstone and check out the dog-tastic day we’ve had!
What Happens On A Hot Doggy Day In Tadcaster?
As you can see from the image at the very top of the screen, I’ve spent most of the week hiding out in the shade of the Wendy house (recently named the ‘Spice-House’, mostly because I don’t know who this Wendy character is). It’s been nice and cool inside, and from my comfortable perch in the window, I’ve been able to check out what everyone has been doing!
The whole team have been crowding around our Olympic sized swimming pool in a bid to keep nice and cool; I’ve never seen the yard so crowded. The River Dogs unit is indeed kept nice and fresh for us to relax in on hotter days like the ones that we’ve had this last week, but there’s just something about dipping your nose and ears into a cold pool that feels refreshing at times like these. My friend Ruby knows exactly what I’m talking about; in fact, she was the one who spent the most time in there! I’m surprised her skin hasn’t gone all wrinkly like her favourite prunes!
Here Come The Girls!
When it’s a hot doggy day outside, the River Dogs girls are sure to be close by. Lounging by the pool isn’t just something that you human ladies like to do, you know! You should have seen Diesel trying to persuade Heidi to come back inside and play ball earlier; he couldn’t move her an inch, not even with the promise of some of his favourite homemade dog treats!
The ladies might have been making the most of the sunny weather, but they weren’t the only ones that were enjoying a dip in the pool. Murphy was jumping in and out like a jack-in-the-box attached to a pogo-stick, splashing all of his friends and putting his wet paws on Helen’s legs whenever she nodded off (these adults just don’t have the stamina of us young pups!). He’s a proper rascal is that Murphy, but that’s why we love him!
What Else Did You See From Your Spice-House, Spice?
Not many people know this, but Labrador’s like to sumo wrestle whenever they see a ring, and our two competitors showed no mercy as soon as they spotted our precious little watering hole. I can’t tell you who won, unfortunately, because I had my paws over my eyes in case anything went wrong. They dissapeared a short while later, and I’m going to be honest folks, I feared the worst. I thought another fight might have broken out, or even worse, that the loser might have run home with their tail between their legs! I left the sanctuary of my shady house and trotted inside to see if I could spot them. This next picture shows where I found them! It turns out that they were both professionals and very sportsmanlike; they even shared a Puppacino after the match. And even though they like a good wrestle, they enjoyed a nice cuddle a heck of a lot more.
It wouldn’t be a hot doggy day without a few tennis balls for us to catch. Now I know what you’re thinking, and no, we didn’t exert ourselves too much. We’ve been reading our own advice on keeping your dog cool this summer, so we know the things to do to stay safe and the signs to look out for. We all took it in turns to line up by the pool and then waited for Auntie Lucy to throw those lovely little tennis balls. Rolo went first, and then we copied him by each taking a huge leap and splashing down into the cool water, the ball clamped tightly in our mouths. It felt more thrilling than the bungee jump I did last summer!
Thanks for checking out my Dog Blog, everyone! I hope that you enjoyed the first entry into what I am now going to refer to as ‘The Spice Chronicles’, even if it does sound a little bit like an adventurous cookbook! Don’t forget to stick around and read some of the other blogs by my four legged friends too. You can check out the Dachshund Diaries for a taste of what it’s like to be a tiny pooch at River Dogs, or maybe you’d like to take a look at ‘Doggy Daycare Near Me‘, Ronda’s account of why she loves spending time with her Tadcaster Doggy Day Care friends!
