The 5 Best Summer Pet Activities For You And Your Dog

Hello everyone, and welcome to another River Dogs Dog Blog! We hope that you’ve been having a great time relaxing in the sunshine and playing with your four-legged friends, enjoying the best dog walks in Tadcaster and playing hide and seek around the Doggy Day Care Selby scene. SSummertimeis such an amazing time of year with lots of chances to get outside and explore the world with your poochy pals, and if the River Dogs aren’t inside enjoying the comfort of our Doggy Day Care unit, then they can usually be found down by the waters edge having a pup-tastic picnic with their friends. If you’re a new dog owner or are just looking for some different activities to do with your beloved pets, then we have made a list of 5 of the Best Summer Pet Activities that you can set up for your pup and their friends. So without further ado, let’s put all four paws to the grindstone and crack on with the first activity on our list!

The 5 Best Summer Pet Activities For You And Your Dog

1. Dog-Friendly BBQ

I know that Fido or Max might like to chow down on a T-Bone steak when you’re not looking, but we’re talking more about something healthier that you can whip up on a mini-sized BBQ instead. There’s no better way to meet up with friends at summertime than around a BBQ, sharing stories and great food in an amazing atmosphere. Throwing a Dog-Friendly BBQ is a great place for your furry friends to get to know one another and for you to chat to their mums and dads, all while chowing down on some tasty salads and homemade dog treats (some of them are so tasty that us humans can eat them too!) Gather your mates together and set something up for this weekend; you won’t regret it!

2. Head Out On A Camping Trip!

If you follow the Vanlife movement on Instagram or have a campervan of your own, then you’ll already know how amazing it can be to just jump into a rolling home and head out on an adventure. Dog’s might not know exactly where you’re taking them, but they definitely appreciate a change of scenery every now and again and love running around new places, sniffing out treasures and making their mark on the world (we all know what that means!). Camping trips are another one of the Best Summer Pet Activities because they also allow us owners to catch up with old friends or to just relax in nature with our poochy pals. There’s nothing more calming than a nice walk in the woods, so consider taking some time away from the 9-5 and head out on an adventure.

3. Head To The Beach!

If you’ve ever seen a dog running around on the beach, then you’ll already know how much they enjoy careering across the sand and chasing the tide as it flows back and forth. There are some amazing beach spots that you can visit all over England, so it shouldn’t be hard to pick one that isn’t full of loud holidaymakers and beach umbrellas. Alternatively, you could book a holiday overseas and take your pooch to the French Riviera for a spot of sunbathing. Check out our guide to Taking Your Dog Abroad here for more details!

4. Grab Yourself A Pool!

Can you remember the day that the River Dogs got their Olympic size paddling pool? It was a momentous occasion that still crops up in conversation today, mostly for its disappointingly small size! In all seriousness though, having a small paddling pool can be a great way for you and your pooch to cool off together and enjoy a little bit of quality snuggling time. This has to be the most refreshing activity on our Best Summer Pet Activities list, and probably the most fun too! You can pick up paddling pools off websites like Amazon and eBay for very cheap, so why not head on over and take a look – your four-legged friends will thank you for it when the sun is beating down on your back garden!

5. Start A New Exercise Regime!

Who wants to be inside a gym when the weather is amazing outside? No-one, that’s who! The last item on our Best Summer Pet Activities might require a lot more effort, but it will be worth it in the long run! Having a dog gives you the perfect excuse to get out into the fresh air and to start a real exercise regime, one that will benefit both your physical and mental health and wellbeing. Take your pooch on a run, head down to the local lake for a swim, and maybe even do a spot of puppy yoga in the local park. The possibilities are endless and the rewards will show themselves in time, so be kind to yourself and your pet and get planning towards a healthier you in time for Christmas 2019!
